For me, it's probably between this & Manhunt & I'm honestly not even sure! 70s-bleak-but-not is such a mood. XD

Oh god, yes. I just watched the first episode of the reboot a day or so ago, and just... I mean, it was fine?

As I said, I watched it first and quite enjoyed it, but it refused to ask the kind of questions I wanted it to ask - and when I eventually tried the original, I found it had all of that in spades. Interestingly, taken as its own thing without any knowledge of the 1970s one, the 2008's own characters/more out there versions of themworked well for me, while their versions of Abby and Greg bored me (even played by Julie Graham and Patterson Joseph!). I enjoyed Tom & Anya (who seems to be a weird Ann-Ruth mash-up!) and the two new characters were also my faves. I would have kept watching it only for Anya/Tom, but unfortunately in those olden times of having to set the dodgy vhs recorder, I was out when it was shown anyway, so I didn't.

But, yeah, it was much more soapy & lightweight & did not want to engage with the big questions of how you survive an apocalypse, whether you could keep on surviving, and if you'd want to, and if you could stay sane in the process that the 1970s one goes into. Which is a shame, because those are questions you could ask again every couple of decades or so and get different answers, and I wish they had been willing to do that.
